301 Strick, PhilipScience Fiction Movies. 00555
Octopus Books: London. 1976.
First edition (& 1st printing).
Oversize hardcover.
160 pages: illustrated throughout.

''(1939-2006) UK sf and film critic, anthologist, teacher, and director of a film library. In 1969 he initiated one of the first adult evening classes in sf in the UK, sponsored by the University of London at the City Literary Institute (see SF in the Classroom), which continued until 1992 under various tutors including John Clute, Colin Greenland, Peter Nicholls, Christopher Priest, Brian Stableford and Lisa Tuttle. Strick's SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES (1976) is a witty, rather helter-skelter account of sf Cinema, one of the best early books on the subject (despite its lack of a filmography). His film criticism continued to appear in Monthly Film Bulletin, later incorporated into Sight and Sound; The BFI Companion to Science Fiction (2001) made some use of this material. Antigrav (anth 1975) edited by Strick assembles funny sf short fiction, including John Brosnan's first-published story'' (Peter Nicholls & John Clute/Encyclopedia of SF, 3rd Edition).

First volume. Full colour graphic novel, collecting the first 12 issues of the comic of the same title (70 issues published in total 1972-1979): ''when the Prince of Darkness rises, longtime enemies are ready for a fight - and so is one of his own descendants! Undead armies, time travel, deathbed voodoo and more!''. Written by Gerry Conway, Archie Goodwin, Gardner F. Fox and Marv Wolfman and illustrated by Gene Colan.

''The Tomb of Dracula is a horror comic book series published by Marvel Comics from April 1972 to August 1979. The 70-issue series featured a group of vampire hunters who fought Count Dracula and other supernatural menaces. On rare occasions, Dracula would work with these vampire hunters against a common threat or battle other supernatural threats on his own, but more often than not, he was the antagonist rather than protagonist. In addition to his supernatural battles in this series, Marvel's Dracula often served as a supervillain to other characters in the Marvel Universe, battling the likes of Blade, Spider-Man, Werewolf by Night, the X-Men, Howard the Duck, and the licensed Robert E. Howard character Solomon Kane''.

324 VAMPIRELLA,Vampirella no 2. 43274
IPC Magazines: London. 1972.
First British edition (& 1st printing).
Magazine.
Colour comic strips throughout.

''Vampirella initially appeared in Warren Publishing's black-and-white horror-comics magazine Vampirella #1 (Sept. 1969), running to issue #112 (March 1983). The title was a sister magazine of Warren's horror anthologies Creepy and Eerie. Like those magazines' respective mascots, Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie, Vampirella hosted horror stories, though unlike them, she would also star in her own story, which would headline each issue. Vampirella was initially edited by Bill Parente. It would later be edited by Archie Goodwin (issues #7-12, 34-35), Billy Graham (#13-16), Bill DuBay (#21-50, 87-95, 101-102) and Louise Jones (#51-86). As comics historian Richard J. Arndt describes, ''Forrest Ackerman created, or at least had a strong hand in creating, Vampirella and he clearly had a major influence in shaping the lighthearted bad-girl story style of this issue as well.'' Her costume and hair style were designed by comics artist Trina Robbins. The character's first story artist was Tom Sutton. Artist Frank Frazetta's first-issue cover ''was a substitute for the original cover by European artist Aslan. José González became the character's primary artist starting with issue #12. Other artists who would draw Vampirella during her magazine's original run included Gonzalo Mayo, Leopold Sanchez, Esteban Maroto, José Ortiz, Escolano, Rudy Nebres, Ramon Torrents, Pablo Marcos, Jim Janes, John Lakey, Val Lakey, and Louis Small, Jr. Backup features appearing in Vampirella included ''Tomb of the Gods'', ''Pantha'' and ''Fleur''. The final issue of the original Vampirella was cover-dated March 1983''.

Spin-off from the USA 1964-1968 tv series (which was itself based on the 1961 film of the same name): colour comic strips.featuring two stories, ''Monsters Of The Moho'' and ''The Last Survivor''.

''this series concerned the exploits of the experimental submarine Seaview; it starred Richard Basehart and David Hedison. Early episodes had fairly conventional stories involving secret agents and threats from unfriendly foreign powers, but later the plots became increasingly fantastic: not only were the crew faced with such dangers as giant whales, giant jellyfish, giant octopuses and giant ''things'', but their submarine was regularly invaded by a variety of esoteric menaces ranging from sentient seaweed to the ghost of a U-boat captain, other uninvited guests including a lobster man, a mummy, a leprechaun, a blob and a mad robot. Throughout, Basehart and Hedison kept straight faces. Abbott's special effects won several Emmy awards'' (John Brosnan/Encyclopedia of SF, 3rd Edition).

Vol 51 no 4: issue 297. All artwork in this issue by Frank Kelly Freas. Oddly, although there are three stories plus poetry by Nancy Springer included in this particular issue, plus an interview with her, the publishers do not warrant that enough material to make it a special Nancy Springer issue, or at least not advertised as such! Also includes a vampire story by Thomas Ligotti. Paperback magazine issue.

Fine (as new) copy.
